Undergraduate Teaching Labs at Johns Hopkins is a new 4 story, 105,000 sf state of the art laboratory building at Johns Hopkins Homewood campus, which utilized BIM technology to coordinate the installation of vast amounts of piping conduit and ductwork. Items of interest include both active, and passive chilled beam cooling, hydronic radiant floor heating, custom energy recovery air handling units and variable exhaust volume devices, serving over 145 fume hoods. The labs are equipped with mobile casework, fume extractor arms, and point of use vacuum systems in addition to the building lab vacuum system. The project was awarded a LEED Silver Certificate. Southern Mechanical Inc. was awarded the 2013 Baltimore Building Congress & Exchange Craftsmanship Award.
